Mathematics Curriculum Intent

Intent

The intent of our mathematics curriculum is to design a curriculum, which is accessible to all and will maximise the development of every child’s ability and academic achievement. It is also our aim for our children to become confident mathematicians with the skills, knowledge, understanding and reasoning to use mathematics in later life whilst fostering a real love for the subject.

Implementation

We deliver lessons that are creative and engaging. We want children to make rich connections across mathematical ideas to develop fluency, mathematical reasoning and competence in solving increasingly sophisticated problems. Teachers use a range of teaching and learning styles according to the subject matter and the pupils being taught.  Pupils should work with concrete, pictorial and abstract representations at all levels in school to develop mastery of the subject. Teachers follow a mastery approach to mathematics and use White Rose as a base for our lessons.

Impact

We intend for our pupils to be able to apply their mathematical knowledge across the whole curriculum. We want them to know that it is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment.  We aspire to foster positive attitudes towards mathematics and competence and confidence in mathematical knowledge, concepts, skills and language.
