Welcome to Irby Primary School Council's homepage.
Please read on to hear about who we are and what we do.
Aims of the School Council:
1. To give the pupils a 'voice' in our school.
2. To encourage collaboration between pupils of different ages.
3. To given our pupils the opportunity to work alongside other members of our school community (staff, governors, parents visitors).
4. To allow pupils to experience democracy at first hand and learn the importance of being active citizens.
Our school council members were elected for the position by their teachers and classmates in September. There are two members from each class to represent their peers at the School Council meetings. We meet together at least once a half term to embark on new projects and discuss ongoing issues and ideas.
It is the class representatives' jobs to:
Attend meeting regularly.
Talk to the children they represent and give their views to the Council.
Feedback from the Council to the children.
Make suggestions for change and have ideas to share with the Council.
Meet our School Council
We have been busy working on some exciting projects!
New Stage!
It was at a school council meeting that the idea for a stage was suggested. It has now been built on the playground to allow the children to perform songs, dances and drama at playtimes and lunchtimes.
Playground Improvements
The school council have made numerous suggestions for improving our vast playground area including, new equipment for playing games such as the huge snakes and ladders, more plants, a new clock and a wheel for the ship.
In memory of Queen Elizabeth II and her Platinum Jubilee Celebration
A small copse of thirty trees has been planted and registered as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy to commemorate the Queen’s service to the country over more than 70 years.
The School Council collected suggestions for the name of our new woodland which will be registered as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy. After much thought and deliberation, the School Council decided that the name of the wooded area will be:
‘Diversitrees’
This is in recognition of the British Values and the need for mutual respect which the Queen modelled and supported through out her life.
